Invisible Braces Changing Smiles Without Metal

Patented technology allows dentists to straighten teeth with no wires

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA – March 21, 2005 – Dr. Jordan and Dr. Pham are offering their patients in South Orange County a revolutionary new option for straightening teeth.  Invisalign is a patented technique which allows dentists to create better smiles and straighter teeth without the metal appearance traditionally associated with braces.

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment option that allows dentists to align teeth using a series of clear, removable, nearly invisible, plastic appliances called aligners. “It’s really quite easy for patients” states Dr. Pham.

The technique involves taking orthodontic records of the patient’s teeth, including impressions and photos, and sending all the material to Align Technology in San Jose, California. Dr. Jordan or Dr. Pham also submit a treatment planning form online, which lets Align know how to move the teeth for each individual patient.

At Align, a computer model of the patient’s teeth is created from the impressions. Align then uses its advanced, 3-D imaging software to generate a graphical representation of the doctor’s treatment plan—almost like an animated movie of the way the patient’s teeth will move from the current position to the final desired position.

At that point, Dr. Jordan or Dr. Pham will review the 3-D movie with the patient on a secure portion of Align’s website. Once the proposal is approved, Align technology produces a series of clear, plastic aligners that correspond to the stages of tooth movement in the 3-D movie.

The patient will wear each stage of aligner for approximately two weeks before switching to the next set in the series. Week by week, the patient’s teeth are straightened millimeter by millimeter.

“The real benefit to the patient is not only that the aligners are nearly invisible” asserts Dr. Jordan, “but the fact that because [the aligners] are removable you can eat and drink whatever you want, and maintain better oral hygiene by brushing and flossing normally—there are no wires, metal or brackets in the way.”

Invisalign has been proven effective in clinical research and orthodontic and dental practices worldwide. More than 230,000 people throughout the world have been treated with Invisalign, the duration of treatment varies from person to person but is typically about one year.
Dr. Jordan and Dr. Pham are clearly on to something here!
